Broward County Code of Ethics and Oakland Park Code of Ordinances require lobbyists to register prior to communicating with elected officials, city adviosry board or committee members, or City staff during the time of the entire desicsion making process.

Who is a Lobbyist?

A person who is retained, with or without compensation, for the purpose of lobbying; or a person who is employed by another person or entity, on a full-time or part-time basis, principally to lobby on behalf of that other person or entity who seeks any action, decision, recommendation of the elected officials, city advisory board or Committee members, or city staff during the time of the entire decision making process.

The following requirements apply to all lobbying activity.

  1. Lobbyists must complete a contact log contemporaneously with the lobbying activity or as soon thereafter as practicable, but no later than three (3) days following the lobbying activity;
  2. The contact log completed by the lobbyists must include the name of each person attending or participating in the lobbying activity as well as the location;
  3. The lobbyist's obligation to complete the contact log applies irrespective of where the lobbying activity occurs or whether the communication occurs in person, by telephone, email, video conference or in writing; and
  4. Each municipality must create and maintain a contact log accessible by registered lobbyists.

There is no fee to register as a lobbyist with Oakland Park.

Once registered, the lobbyist must log in each lobbying activity as soon as possible, but no later than three (3) days following the lobbying activity.
